Rhoderick John "Bobby" Wallace (born November 4, 1873 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , † November 3, 1960 in Torrance , California ) was an American baseball player and manager in Major League Baseball (MLB).

biography

Bobby Wallace spent a total of 60 years in professional baseball. He played his first game for the Cleveland Spiders in the National League on September 15, 1894 as a pitcher . In 1897 he moved to the position of third baseman before he took over his regular position as a shortstop in 1899 in the St. Louis Perfectos jersey . Especially his achievements in field games were noteworthy. In 1902 he moved from the Cardinals to city rivals in the American League , the St. Louis Browns . With these he played until 1916 with an interruption from June 1915 to August 1916, in which he worked as an umpire in the American League. In 1911 and 1912 he was also the manager of the St. Louis Browns. In 1917 he moved back to the Cardinals, for whom he played his last game on September 2, 1918. He then worked mainly as a scout until he worked again as a manager for the Cincinnati Reds in September 1937 .

In 1953 he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee . Wallace died in 1960 the day before his 87th birthday.
