Book lion

The book lion ( Dutch: Boekenleeuw ) is a Flemish youth literary prize , which is awarded once a year for the best Dutch-language youth book by a Flemish youth author. Up to 1985 the prize was called the Referendumprijs voor het Kinderboek and up to and including 1989 up to five prizes could be awarded annually: three for Flemish books, one for a Flemish non-fiction book and one for a translated work.

The Boekenleeuw is awarded annually by the Boek.be association at the youth book week and is endowed with 2,500 euros.

In addition to the Boekenleeuw each year are also a number of books puppies (Dutch. Boekenwelpen passed). Book puppy winners will receive a silver medal.
