Sigrid Heuck

Sigrid Heuck (born May 11, 1932 in Cologne ; † October 2, 2014 in Bad Tölz ) was a German writer and illustrator .

Sigrid Heuck grew up on her mother's pony farm in a town on Bergstrasse ; from 1949 she lived in the Grabenmühle, a historic building in Upper Bavaria near Dietramszell - Rampertshofen . Sigrid Heuck attended a fashion school in Munich from 1949 ; she then completed a degree in commercial graphics at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts . She worked for various advertising agencies , but then moved to the illustrating of children's books . Since 1959 she has been a freelance writer and illustrator.

Sigrid Heuck's extensive work includes illustrations for his own and others' picture book texts, and narrative works for children and young people . While her children's books are strongly influenced by the author's closeness to nature - who also wrote a number of titles from the horse book genre - her youth books are partly about fantastic literature (Said's story) , adventure literature (moon hunters) and the historical novel ( Meister Joachims Secret and Die alte Mühl ).

Sigrid Heuck received a. a. The following awards: 1984 the Friedrich Gerstäcker Prize for moon hunters , 1988 the Fantastic Prize of the City of Wetzlar for Said's story , 1990 the Austrian Youth Book Prize for Master Joachim's Secret and the Grand Prize of the German Academy for Children's and Youth Literature for their complete works, 1994 the Bavarian Order of Merit and in 2002 the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class. Her books were also on the shortlist for the German Youth Literature Prize six times .

Heuck died on October 2, 2014 in Bad Tölz, Upper Bavaria, at the age of 82.

The artistic estate of the writer and illustrator Sigrid Heuck was handed over to the children's and youth book department of the Berlin State Library - Prussian Cultural Heritage for permanent storage.
