Bogislaw XIII. (Pomerania)
Bogislaw XIII. (* August 9, 1544 ; † March 7, 1606 in Stettin ) was Duke of Pomerania.
Life
Bogislaw XIII. was a son of Duke Philip I of Pomerania-Wolgast and his wife Maria of Saxony , the daughter of Elector Johann von Sachsen . At the age of fourteen he studied at the University of Greifswald . Here he was honored in 1559 with the appointment of rector for one year. He was initially co-regent of his brother Duke Johann Friedrich von Pommern-Wolgast.
In 1569, however, he was resigned to the offices of Barth and Neuenkamp by Johann Friedrich . In 1582 he founded a princely printing house there , which gained national importance, among other things through the Barther Bible, which was printed in Low German in 1588 . In 1587 he founded the city of Franzburg , which, according to his far-reaching plans, was to compete with the city of Stralsund , which was at odds with him ; but it remained a small country town.
From 1603 until his death he ruled in Pomerania-Stettin, which he had received according to the Jasenitz inheritance contract of 1569 after the childless death of his two brothers Johann Friedrich († 1600) and Barnim X. († 1603). However, he stayed in Barth and appointed his eldest son Philip II as governor.
From his first marriage with Klara von Braunschweig-Lüneburg, daughter of Franzens von Braunschweig and Lüneburg, Prince von Gifhorn , and his wife Klara , the representatives of the last generation of the Greifenhaus come from . His sons Philip II , Franz and Bogislaw XIV ruled one after the other in Stettin, the latter also in Wolgast from 1625. Franz, Bogislaw XIV. And the youngest son Ulrich also ruled for a time as Bishops of Cammin in the monastery. His daughter Anna von Croy , also Anna von Pommern, was married to Ernst von Croy . His second marriage to Anna von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg remained childless.
Bogislaw XIII. died in Stettin in 1606 and was buried in the castle church there. He was followed in the government by his son Philip II.
