Boituva , officially Portuguese Município de Boituva , is a Brazilian medium- sized town in the state of São Paulo .
history
Before modern times, the area of the Boituva community was inhabited by the now extinct indigenous tribe Guaianaz, also guaianases or guaianã . The name Boituva was first used in the 18th century. In the old Tupí language it means "place of the many snakes".
population
According to the 2010 census, the municipality had 48,314 inhabitants, who are called Boituvenser. It ranks 128th among the cities in São Paulo by population. According to the IBGE's estimate of July 1, 2018, the population was calculated to grow to 59,793 residents. The area is around 249 km²; the population density is 194.1 people per km². Of the inhabitants (2010), 45,457 were in the urban core and 2,866 in the rural zone.
Infrastructure and economy
The city is on the state highways SP-129 and SP-280 . A railway line has crossed the city in a north-south direction since 1882.
In the north of Boituva, Grupo Petrópolis operates a large brewery . The Wuppertal company Schmersal and the adhesive manufacturer Henkel also have locations here.
Culture and sights
Boituva is considered the Brazilian capital of parachuting .
