Bombogen is a local district and, in terms of population, the second largest district of Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate .

geography

Due to its location in the climatically mild Wittlich depression , the place has always been characterized by agriculture, especially due to the tobacco drying barns that can be seen everywhere in the old town center. There is a full-time farm in the village. In 2006 there were still three tobacco growers in the entire Wittlich Valley. They cultivate the Virgin variety , which is processed in Lahr / Black Forest . The Lüxeberg (Lüxemkopf) is located on the Bombogener district , an extinct volcanic cone, which shows the proximity to the Vulkaneifel. The places Belingen and Berlingen were part of Bombogen before the municipal reform in 1969.

history

Bombogen, at that time as Bumagen (from Celtic bono magus, "inhabited field") was first mentioned in a document in 940 in a declaration by Otto I (936–973). However, based on name research, it can be assumed that Bombogen existed as a Roman settlement about 2000 years ago . This can also be seen in the fact that one of the most important Roman military roads in this area leads from Koblenz to Trier over the Bombogener district .

On June 7, 1969, Bombogen was incorporated into the district town of Wittlich.

politics

The interests of the local district of Bombogen are represented by a local advisory board and a local councilor. The mayor is Mario Wellenberg (CDU).
