Bonne Viaduct

The Bonne is a mountain river in France that runs in the Isère department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . It rises in the Écrins National Park from the Glacier de Font Turbat glacier , on the southeast flank of the Aiguille de l'Olan summit (3373 m), in the municipality of Valjouffrey . The river generally drains in a westerly direction through the valley of the Valjouffrey , later that of the Valbonnais, and after 40 kilometers it flows into the Drac as a right tributary at the municipal boundary of Ponsonnas and Saint-Pierre-de-Méaroz .

Hydrology

Below La Chapelle en Valjouffrey , water is taken from the river and branched off into the Canal du Beaumont . This irrigation canal connects the valley of the Valbonnais with that of Beaumont, which lies further south in a very poorly irrigated zone and is also fully oriented to the south. Since the Valbonnais, in contrast, is very well supplied by the rich water supply of the Bonne, the canal was planned and built in the 1st half of the 19th century; it opened in 1873. It is still in use today and there is a tourist trail for hikers and cyclists along its route.
