Boris Nemšić

Boris Nemšić [ ˈbɔris ˈnɛmʃitɕ ] (born August 17, 1957 in Sarajevo , Yugoslavia ) is a Bosnian-Austrian manager. He was Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Telekom Austria Group until the beginning of 2009 and CEO of the Russian telecommunications group VimpelCom from April 2009 to June 2010 .

Life

In 1980 he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Sarajevo. At the age of 27, Nemšić came to Vienna in 1984 to study here. In 1990 the Bosnian Croat received his doctorate from the Vienna University of Technology , where he also worked for two years as a research assistant at the Institute for Telecommunications and High Frequency Technology under Ernst Bonek .

While studying, Nemšić played handball - with the UHC Stockerau he was a three-time cup winner and Austrian champion as a goalkeeper.

From 1990 until joining Telekom Austria, he headed the mobile communications development departments at Ascom and Bosch Telecom in Vienna , Solothurn ( Switzerland ) and Berlin . In the course of telecommunications liberalization, Boris Nemšić was hired by Mobilkom Austria in 1997 as head of network planning. From November 1998 he headed the team of the Croatian Mobilkom Austria subsidiary Vipnet .

In May 2000, the appointed Board of Mobilkom Austria Boris Nemsic as Director General of the Company and entrusted him with the commercial management. As of January 2001, he was also responsible for the technical department in this function. Boris Nemšić was appointed to the Board of Management of Telekom Austria (TA) as COO Mobile Communication in July 2002 .
On May 24, 2006, Nemšić took over the chairmanship of the TA board in addition to his previous role as Mobilkom chairman. He is a member of the University Council of the Vienna University of Technology .

In 2008 he was awarded the “ Great Decoration of Honor in Gold for Services to the Republic of Austria ” for his services to the development of mobile communications in Austria.

On March 31, 2009, Nemšić resigned as CEO of the Telekom Austria Group and mobilkom austria AG and assumed the position of CEO at VimpelCom in Russia. In June 2010, Nemsic surprisingly left the company.

Since July 2011 he has been working for Delta Partners , a consultancy specializing in telecommunications, media and technologies . At the same time, Nemšić is building his own company in the field of international wine trade, mainly with rarely traded Croatian wines.

On March 15, 2012, Nemšić was heard as a witness by the parliamentary committee of inquiry to clarify allegations of corruption .

Nemšić is married and has two children.
