The Drwęca ( 'drvɛntsa , German Drewenz ) is a right tributary of the Vistula in the Polish provinces Masuria and Kujawy .
The Drwęca, formerly also called Drebnitz , rises about eight kilometers southwest of Olsztynek (Hohenstein) near the village of Drwęck (Drebnitz) and flows first in a north-westerly direction to Ostróda (Osterode) , then in a westerly direction through the Jezioro Drwęckie (Drewenzsee) in the Masurian region Lake area and finally runs in a south to south-westerly direction until it finally flows into the Vistula at the south-eastern border of Toruń (Thorn) . The Drwęca is 253 kilometers long. Its catchment area is around 5,536 km².
The Oberland Canal (Kanał Elbląski), built between 1840–1856, connects the Drwęca via Miłomłyn (Liebemühl) , Ostróda (Osterode) and Elbląg (Elbing) with the Frischer Lagoon .
The approximately 30 km long section of the river between Brodnica (Strasburg) and Lubicz (Leibitsch) shortly before Toruń marked a part of the north-western border of Poland several times in history.
