Borys Voznyzkyj
Borys Hryhorowytsch Wosnyzkyj ( Ukrainian Борис Григорович Возницький * 16th April 1926 in Ulbarów , Province Volyn , Second Polish Republic ; † 23. May 2012 in Kurowytschi , Lviv Oblast , Ukraine ) was a Ukrainian art historian and director of the National Art Gallery Lviv .
Life
Borys Wosnyzkyj was born in the then Polish village of Ulbarów, today's Nahirne in Dubno district of the Ukrainian Rivne Oblast . Between 1950 and 1955 he studied at the University of Applied Arts in Lviv and from 1956 to 1960 at the Faculty of "Art History and Theory" at the Leningrad Institute for Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. After his studies he was deputy director of the Scientific Museum of Ukrainian Art until 1962 . Since 1962 he has been the director of the Lviv Art Gallery, which since February 4, 1998 has been allowed to call itself the Lviv National Art Gallery. In 2006 he became an academician of the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture . He was also President of the Ukrainian National Committee of the International Council of Museums and author of numerous books.
Wosnyzkyj was 86 years old, after a car journey near Kurowytschi in Rajon Zolochiv suffered a heart attack and fell into oncoming traffic, killed. He was buried in the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv .

Borys Vosnyzkyj received numerous medals and honors. Including:

- 2001 Ukrainian Order of Merit, 2nd class
- 1998 Honorary Doctorate from the Kraków Pedagogical Academy
- 1996 Ukrainian Order of Merit 3rd class
- 1990 Taras Shevchenko Prize
- 1985 Order of the Great Patriotic War 2nd class
- 1984 Honored in Polish Culture
- 1972 Honored by Ukraine
- 1945 Medal of Bravery from the Soviet Union
He is also an honorary citizen of the city of Lviv. On April 12, 2013, the Lviv National Art Gallery , of which he was director for many years, was named after him in his honor.
