- Boston Beigel Yeah! Another Valley On The Long Decline
(1990)

Boston Beigel Yeah! is the debut album of the German indie rock band Speed Niggs from Detmold in East Westphalia . It was released in the fall of 1989. The album, originally only released as an LP and soon out of print, was re-released on CD in 1995.

classification

The album was released about half a year after the band was founded and was named record of the month in the then influential music magazine Spex . The band, which consisted entirely of unknown musicians, became known in the German indie music scene in one fell swoop.

The album sounds like an unfinished demo recording and is musically based on musicians like Jimi Hendrix , the songwriting is reminiscent of Neil Young . You can also hear the influence of American guitar bands that were popular at the time, such as the Lemonheads or Dinosaur Jr. The reference to these bands, which all came from Boston , is indicated in the album title.

criticism

The album and the band were often accused of a lack of innovation and creativity. It is astonishing that the head of the Speed Niggs, Christopher Uhe, later orientated himself heavily towards experimental bands like Sonic Youth and musicians like Beck . From these influences is on Boston Beigel Yeah! still little to hear.

Cover

The drawing on the cover comes from the Maltese-American comic artist Joe Sacco . The black and white picture shows a punk who makes himself comfortable on a deck chair with a tequila bottle in the midst of a doom and gloom.
