What's that noise

What´s that noise was a German music fanzine from Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia . The magazine was founded in 1988 and existed for around ten years, in which 18 issues were published. From 1992 the fanzine also released sound carriers. There are nine singles with various national and international artists that came with the booklet, as well as two albums .

history

The founders of the fanzine orientated themselves strongly on the then influential Cologne music magazine SPEX . One focus of the reporting was the so-called Hamburger Schule , a term that was first used in an article in What´s that noise. They also dealt with popular American guitar bands such as Nirvana or Bad Religion .

The founders and employees came from, among others, the Bielefeld band Hip Young Things and later worked for the Westdeutscher Rundfunk or the football magazine 11 Freunde , among others .

Singles, vinyl 7 ″

From 1992 the fanzine was accompanied by a single with mostly unreleased songs by different musicians and styles. Many tracks can only be found on these singles and have never been released again.

  • In 1994 What's That Noise released the album Atmospherehandel (CD and LP) by the band Me In The Rye with 11 songs.

In 1998 What's That Noise released the CD sampler Plan Boom . The edition was limited to 1,000 copies.
