Boyd Kevin Rutherford (born April 1, 1957 in Washington, DC ) is an American politician . He has been Lieutenant Governor of the State of Maryland since 2015 .

Career

In 1979, Boyd Rutherford graduated from Howard University in Washington, where he studied economics and politics. After studying law at the University of Southern California and his admission to the bar in 1990, he began working in this profession. He worked in California , Washington DC and Baltimore . He was also involved in a few other business sectors.

Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Prior to serving as Lieutenant Governor of Maryland, he had not held any political office. However, he has worked in administration at both the state and federal level. From 2001 to 2003 he worked for the General Services Administration . From 2003 to 2006 he served as Secretary of General Services on the staff of Governor Robert L. Ehrlich . He then worked for the US Department of Agriculture until 2009 . Then he was the administrative head of the Republican National Committee until 2011 . In 2000 he took part as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia , where George W. Bush was nominated as a candidate for president.

In November 2014, Rutherford was elected Lieutenant Governor of Maryland. He has held this office since January 21, 2015 as the successor to the Democrat Anthony G. Brown . He is Deputy Governor Larry Hogan .
