The Brühlgraben is a right tributary of the Schandelbach in the Main-Kinzig district in the Hessian Spessart .

The Brühlgraben rises at a height of about 380  m above sea level. NHN east of Waldrode on Landesstrasse 2306 at the Franzosenkopf (481 m), near the state border with Bavaria .

It initially runs in a westerly direction, flows around the Haidküppel (260 m) and bends to the north. The Brühlgraben then flows through Großenhausen , where it takes up the Krötenbach .

The Brühlgraben finally flows south of Altenhaßlau at an altitude of around 150  m above sea level. NHN from the right into the Schandelbach .

Its 4.6 km long run ends about 230 meters below its source, so it has an average bottom gradient of about 50 ‰.

Catchment area

The catchment area of ​​the Brühlgraben lies on the upper reaches of the Spessart and on the middle and lower reaches of the Meerholzer Hügelland . It is drained over the Schandelbach, the Kinzig , the Main and the Rhine to the North Sea.

It borders

  • in the east to that of the Schandelbach tributary Eichelbach
  • in the southeast to that of the Lützelbach , a tributary of the Bieber , which flows into the Kinzig
  • in the south to that of the Kinzig tributary Birkigsbach
  • and to the west of the Lochgraben , a tributary of the Schandelbach.

The catchment area on the upper reaches is dominated by coniferous forest, the middle reaches by the locality of Großenhausen and otherwise it is characterized by arable land.
