The Breitenbach (Czech: Blatenský potok ) is a left tributary of the Black Water in the Ore Mountains .

course

The stream rises about 1.5 km southwest of Horní Blatná (Platten) and thus only a few hundred meters below the Ore Mountains ridge line . First it runs one kilometer to the east, where it then joins another spring arm and continues to flow north. After another 800 meters, from the right, he takes on the 12 km long Plattner Kunstgraben . This was created between 1540 and 1554 to bring impact water for the Platten mining from near Boží Dar (Gottesgab). The stream then flows with a slight gradient along the road II. Class 221, which was an important traffic artery on the way to Karlovy Vary as the Platten Pass until the 19th century . On the way the Tichý potok (Zinnerwieselbach) and the Prudký potok (Lauterbach) flow towards it, until it reaches the state border after about 6.5 km. There it takes up the Jugelbach flowing in from the left and coming from the Lehmergrund , which in turn takes up the Pechöfener Bach (Czech: Smolný potok, Hraniční potok). Pechöfener, Jugelbach and Breitenbach form the border water between the Czech Republic and Germany for about 3.7 km. At Potůčky (Breitenbach) the brook then bends in the Johanngeorgenstadt area and flows into the Schwarzwasser in Wittigsthal after about 700 m .

particularities

The Breitenbach lies in an area with extensive mining for tin, silver, iron and cobalt. Several stamping mills and mills were built along its course for processing . The paint mills , of which there were several on the Breitenbach, are remarkable .
