The broad mountain is a 629.2 m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Rothaargebirge . It is located in the natural Siegerland near Sohlbach in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district of North Rhine-Westphalia .

The Breite Berg rises in the southwest foothills of the Rothaar Mountains and in the south of the Sauerland-Rothaar Mountains Nature Park . Its summit, which belongs to the Obernau district, is about 1.7 kilometers (km) south-southeast of Sohlbach , 2.6 km east-southeast of Afholderbach , 1.5 km east of the Alte Burg and 1.3 km northwest of Hohenroth Forest House .
Natural allocation
The Breite Berg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33) and in the main unit Siegerland (331) to the subunit Siegerland Rothaar-Vorhöhen ( Siegquellbergland ; 331.2). The landscape leads east into the natural area Eder- and Lahnkopf-Wasserscheide ( Ederkopf-Lahnkopf-Ridge ; 333.01), which in the main unit Rothaargebirge with Hochsauerland (333) to the subunit Kalteiche and Eder-Lahnkopf-Höhen ( Dill-Lahn-Eder Source area ; 333.0) counts.
Flowing waters
The Breite Berg is part of a ridge that separates the valleys and side valleys of the Netphe on the north and north-east side and the Obernau in the south-west. It continues from the summit towards the Alte Burg . In addition to the Obernau, some of its tributaries also arise on the mountain, the water of which finally reaches the Obernautalsperre operated by the Siegen-Wittgenstein Water Association . On the north-eastern slope of the mountain there is also an unnamed tributary of the Hohe Netphe and another on its southwest slope that flows into the Netphe in Sohlbach.
Protected areas
Parts of the landscape protection area Netphen ( CDDA -Nr. 390136; designated 1985; 118.9074 km² ) and the fauna-flora-habitat- area Rothaarkamm and Wiesentäler (FFH-Nr. 5015-301; 34.4146 km² ) lie on the Breiten Berg ).
Traffic and walking
Several well-developed hiking trails run across the summit region of the Breiten Berg. For example, the only route to the Alte Burg that does not have to overcome extreme gradients leads over to it .
