Bretonne ( German  Bretonin ) is a music album by the French singer Nolwenn Leroy . It pays homage to their homeland, Brittany .

production

The album was produced by Jon Kelly , who has also worked with Kate Bush , Chris Rea , Prefab Sprout and Tori Amos . Nolwenn Leroy was supported on the album by well-known Breton artists such as Alan Stivell , Tri Yann , Christophe Miossec and Didier Squiban , among others as the authors and composers of some songs.

expenditure

The first version of the album was released on December 6, 2010 in French-speaking countries. This version contains 13 songs: seven are sung in French, five more in Celtic languages, four of them in Breton and one in (Irish) Gaelic . The album is completed by the English traditional Greensleeves .

The second version of the album was released as Édition Deluxe on November 28, 2011 in French-speaking countries and contains seven other popular English-language titles (one mixed with Irish) with more or less reference to the Celtic region, including two more recent pop songs by Mike Oldfield .

The third version of the album was released on January 20, 2012 in German-speaking countries. It contains the 13 titles of the first version plus two titles of the French deluxe version.

In 2012/2013 another version of this album was released in the United States of America and the United Kingdom under the title "Nolwenn" with only twelve songs. This so-called US-GB version of “Bretonne” contains all seven bonus titles as well as five songs related to the Anglo-Saxon world . A new picture of the adult artist serves as the cover.

Songs

Some songs, including La jument de Michao and Tri martolod , are traditional songs that are widely used in the Celtic language areas.

The song Mna na H-Eireann was chosen as the theme song for the television film Die Rache der Wanderhure with Alexandra Neldel in the leading role. The song was considered to be particularly suitable thematically because it fits the time of the plot and is also about "strong women".

The TV broadcaster RTL used La jument de Michao as the theme song for the broadcast of the Formula 1 weekend in Canada in June 2012.

success

Bretonne was awarded a diamond in France for more than half a million copies sold. In total, it sold over 1.2 million times and reached number 1 in France and Belgium. In Leroy's homeland, it was named Album of the Year at the NRJ Music Awards . In addition to number 20 in Switzerland, the album also reached number 13 in Germany. For the first time, Leroy was successful beyond the French-speaking area.
