Nolwenn Leroy
Nolwenn Leroy [ nɔlvɛn lɘʀwɑ ] (born September 28, 1982 in Saint-Renan , Brittany , as Nolwenn Le Magueresse ) is a French singer , songwriter and musician .
biography
After early discovery of her musical talent, Leroy, daughter of Muriel Leroy and professional footballer Jean-Luc Le Magueresse , took violin lessons during school . When she was eleven, her parents divorced, and Nolwenn lived with her mother with her sister Kay, who was born in 1990. She later adopted their last name to avoid confusion with the French singer Nolwen . In 1998 she spent a year as an exchange student in the USA ( Cincinnati , Ohio) and on her return enrolled at the Conservatory of Music in Vichy . In 2001 she began studying law at the University of Clermont-Ferrand with the aim of pursuing a diplomatic career. Animated by the first episode of the Star Academy , a French version of the talent show in the early 2000s, she took singing lessons from the singing teacher Armande Altaï, who became famous through the show .
A possible musical career, for which she had successfully applied, she turned down and took part in the second season of the Star Academy. At the end of December 2002 she was the winner.
With her first single Cassé she was able to place in the French and Swiss charts. Her first album Nolwenn also sold very well in French-speaking countries, reaching number 1 and double platinum in France (more than 600,000 records sold) and number 2 in Switzerland and Belgium . In 2004 she was recognized as a "French-speaking Newcomer" at the NRJ Music Awards .
After an extensive tour and publications in the French-speaking part of Canada , she returned in 2006 with another number one hit Nolwenn Ohwo! back, written by Alain Souchon and Laurent Voulzy . Laurent Voulzy also produced the second album Histoires Naturelles, which was released a little later . She received platinum again for the sale of over 400,000 records. The songs from Histoires Naturelles and Nolwenn were performed on the "Histoires Naturelles Tour", which started in September 2006. The first live album Nolwenn Leroys was released in late October 2007.
Le Cheshire Cat & Moi was a project that started in 2007. The songs are mainly from Leroy and Teitur Lassen , with additional contributions from Jonatha Brooke , Rupert Hine , Michelle Featherstone and Mike Errico . Teitur Lassen produced the album and the songs were recorded in Sweden and the Faroe Islands . The result was a completely acoustic album, which was released in December 2009. The tour entitled "Le Cheshire Cat & Vous" started in 2010.
On December 6, 2010, Leroy's album Bretonne was released with mostly traditional songs from Brittany, Great Britain and Ireland. It became Leroy's most successful album with over 1.2 million copies sold. In addition to number 1 in France and Belgium, one of her albums also reached the German charts for the first time and made her known beyond the French-speaking world. The Bretonne Tour (over 100 concerts) started in 2011.
On November 26th, 2012 her fifth studio album, Ô Filles de l'eau , was released, produced by Jon Kelly. The first single Juste pour me souvenir was released in advance. The album was released in Germany on March 29, 2013.
On May 13th 2017 she released the first single Gemme from her next studio album.
Personal
Since January 2008 she has had a relationship with the former French tennis player Arnaud Clément . They have one son.
