Brett Perlini (born June 14, 1990 in Sault Ste. Marie , Ontario ) is a Canadian - British ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Pustertal in the Alps Hockey League since 2020 .

Career

Brett Perlini began his career as a hockey player with youth teams from Guildford, where the family lived at the time, where he was named an U15 All-Star by the English Ice Hockey Association in 2004. In 2004 the family returned to Canada and Perlini initially played for various youth teams in his native Sault Ste. Marie . In 2005 he was named the fairest athletic player in the Northern Ontario Bantam Hockey League. In 2007 he was the top scorer and rookie of the year of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League. During his studies, he played for the Michigan Spartans , the Michigan State University team , for the championship of the National Collegiate Athletic Association for four years . During this time, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2010 by the Anaheim Ducks in the seventh round as a total of 192 players. However, he never played for the Ducks. From 2012 to 2017 he played for various clubs in the ECHL for five years and completed a total of almost 300 games. He was also used twice in 2012/13 in the American Hockey League for the Lake Erie Monsters . In 2017 he returned to England and played for Nottingham Panthers in the Elite Ice Hockey League until 2020 . He has been under contract with HC Pustertal in the Alps Hockey League since 2020 .

International

For Great Britain , Perlini, who has both British and Canadian citizenship, took part in the 2018 World Cup for the first time when the British returned to the top division for the first time since relegation in 1994. He himself was named Most Valuable Player and Member of the All-Star Team. At the 2019 World Cup , he was also part of the British team, as was the Olympic qualification for the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing in February 2020 .

family

Perlini comes from a family of ice hockey. His father Fred played eight NHL games for the Toronto Maple Leafs and over 250 AHL games. He was last active in England. The younger brother Brendan , who was born in England, has been under contract with the Arizona Coyotes in the NHL since 2016 . Uncle Kevin Conway , brother of Brett's mother, went to England in the mid-1980s and played - like Brett - for the British national team . He is part of the last British team until 2019 to take part in a world championship of the highest level in 1994 .
