Brian Poole (born November 3, 1941 in Dagenham ) is a British pop singer who was successful together with The Tremeloes in the 1960s .

biography

In 1958 the butcher's son founded the music group "Brian Poole & the Tremeloes" with some schoolmates. The formation played mainly as a cover band in English clubs. In 1962 she got her first record deal , with Decca then opting for her and against The Beatles . With a cover version of Twist and Shout , it immediately reached number 4 in the UK in June 1963 . With the follow -up single Do You Love Me , originally a US R&B hit by The Contours , the band had a three-week number one hit .

Although they were also successful with other cover songs in their homeland, e.g. For example, with the top ten hits Candy Man and Someone, Someone , the group's international career did not progress, especially in the USA. In 1966 Brian Poole separated from the Tremeloes and tried his hand at being a solo artist, but he was unsuccessful and so he retired from the music business to the family butcher's shop. Much more successful, however, was the further career of the Tremeloes, with whom Poole occasionally appears at oldie festivals.

In the late 1990s, Poole's daughters Karen and Shellie made a name for themselves as Alisha's Attic .
