Brooklyn is a city in Cuyahoga County in the US state of Ohio . It borders immediately southwest on Cleveland , is 4.3 square miles (11.1 km²) and had (2010) 11,169 inhabitants, of which 84.3% white.

The metropolitan area is located approximately 9.1 kilometers southwest of downtown Cleveland and extends in an east-west direction roughly between 65th and 117th Streets. The area protrudes from the south like a wedge into Cleveland. Because while Parma is in the south , Cleveland borders on the other three sides.

Today's Brooklyn is the most south-westerly corner of the township of the same name, which in turn goes back to the time of land surveying within the then Connecticut Western Reserve at the beginning of the 19th century. This area stretched north from what is now Brooklyn to Lake Erie , east down to the Cuyahoga River , and the northeast corner was just across from what is now downtown Cleveland. Due to incorporations mainly to Cleveland, this area shrank to its present size by the beginning of the 20th century.

The development is divided into three parts. While there are extensive residential areas of the (lower) middle class in the east and in the middle, on the southern outskirts of the city along the Interstate there are 480 commercial areas with specialist markets and logistics companies. On the north-western edge, on the other hand, there are numerous industrial companies along the railway, especially in the metalworking sector. Also noteworthy are companies from the printing industry ( The Plain Dealer and American Greetings ). The large Memorial Park in the city center and the nature reserve around Big Creek, which drains the urban area to the east, are of great importance for the quality of life in the city.

Immediately east of the city is the Cleveland district of the same name, Brooklyn , also known as Old Brooklyn for better differentiation . This is known for its music scene and the many eateries along Memphis Avenue. Brooklyn High School marks a milestone in the career of Elvis Presley , who gave his first concert here in the northern United States on October 20, 1955. It was Elvis' first concert that has been filmed. Elvis wasn't headlining the concert back then, but appeared after Bill Haley & His Comets, The Four Lads and Pat Boone .
