The Brunnenregion is a local recreation area in the eastern Rhein-Neckar district in Baden-Württemberg . It is not a historical name of the Schwarzbachtal, but a tourist logo of the participating municipalities created at the beginning of the new century.

geography

Geographical location

The region lies in the transition from the Kleiner Odenwald to the Kraichgau hill country. Surrounding larger cities are Heidelberg, Heilbronn and Karlsruhe, the closest major district town is Sinsheim . The Schwarzbach and the Krebsbach are the main bodies of water in the well region.

cities and communes

The well region consists of the municipalities of the "Waibstadt Municipal Administration Association":

Fountain

The well region has a high density of historical wells. Although these have no other meaning here than elsewhere, they represent a sympathetic link between the locations in the historically and denominationally different places of the Brunnen region. They are often made of the red sandstone typical of the Kleiner Odenwald . The fountains partly shape the townscape of the region and are therefore among the landmarks of the places, such as the Renaissance-era draw well in Helmstadt, which tells of the former moated castle of the important gentlemen of Helmstatt , and the town hall fountain in Waibstadt with the "Brunnenweible", a Fountain figure which, according to legend, was donated by a German emperor in the 12th century as thanks for his successful hiding place in Waibstadt.

Museums

The fountain region has three local museums: In the former front yard of the Lobenfeld monastery in Epfenbach, in the pentagonal tower in Neckarbischofsheim and in the Neidenstein fortress.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

Road traffic

The most important street in the Brunnen region is Bundesstraße 292 . The Sinsheim car connection to the A 6 is only a few kilometers away .

Local public transport

The municipalities of Waibstadt, Helmstadt-Bargen and Neidenstein have a connection to the railway network via the Schwarzbachtalbahn ( Meckesheim - Aglasterhausen ). The line was electrified together with the Elsenz Valley Railway until 2009 and added to the RheinNeckar S-Bahn network. This creates connections to Heidelberg and Mannheim . Since August 2009 there has been no regular traffic on the Krebsbachtalbahn .

A connecting element of the Brunnen region are the bus lines 782, 795, 796 and 797 of the Rhein-Neckar transport association , which are operated by the PalatinaBus and connect the communities of the Brunnen region with each other and with Sinsheim .

media

The most widely distributed newspaper is the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung .
