Bruno Ernst Stübel (born November 18, 1842 Leipzig , † November 28, 1907 Dresden ) was a German librarian.

Life

Stübel received his training from 1858 to 1860 at the Polytechnic in Dresden. He studied history in Leipzig and received his doctorate there in 1867 with a thesis entitled: The Chronicon Sampetrinum Erfurtense using the Dresden and Göttingen manuscripts critically examined . His first reviewer was Georg Voigt . He then worked as a volunteer at the Leipzig City Library , from 1869 as an assistant at the Leipzig University Library . He became curator there in 1874 and its head as librarian in 1881 . It is probably due to this fact that Stübel also became the chairman of the Numismatic Society in Leipzig. In 1887 he went to the Royal Public Library in Dresden , whose senior librarian he became in 1897.

In the context of the Codex diplomaticus Saxoniae regiae , Stübel remains unforgettable for the Saxon state history with the publication of the document book of the University of Leipzig from 1409 to 1555. With regard to the older editions of documents on the history of Leipzig University, its importance can only be compared with Richard Georg Erler (1850–1913), to whom the publication of the university's matriculation is to be owed, and with the Germanist Friedrich Zarncke , who wrote the book of statutes Leipzig University had published.

In 1907 he was awarded the Commander's Cross 2nd Class of the Royal Saxon Order of Merit . He also received the title of Privy Councilor. Stübel died in Dresden in 1907 and was buried in the Trinitatisfriedhof .
