The 97th Brussels Cycling Classic 2017 was a Belgian road bike race with start and finish in Brussels after 201.3 km . It took place on Saturday , September 2nd, 2017 . It was also part of the UCI Europe Tour 2017 and classified in the 1st HC category.

The winner in the mass sprint was the Frenchman Arnaud Démare from FDJ ahead of the Slovenian cyclist Marko Kump from UAE Team Emirates .

On the 201 km long circuit around Brussels included a total of 13 climbs, the last of which 20 km from the finish. The destination was on avenue Houba de Strooper in Brussels.

Race course

Shortly after the start, five drivers led by Dimitri Peyskens (Belgium / WB Veranclassic) pulled away. The group had a lead of a maximum of five minutes and was overtaken with ten kilometers to go. In the selective middle part of the race with the many climbs, the co-favorites to win, Marcel Kittel (Germany / Quick Step) and Nacer Bouhanni (France / Cofidis), got out. After the escape group was overtaken , Matthias Brändle attacked in order to achieve the goal as a soloist. But Brändle was stopped a few kilometers from the finish. It came to a mass sprint. Arnaud Démare (France / FDJ) won the sprint ahead of Marko Kump (Slovenia / UAE Team Emirates) and André Greipel (Germany / Lotto Soudal).
