Buch is a district of the municipality of Bodenwöhr in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf ( Bavaria ).

geography

Buch is located in the east of Bavaria in the Upper Palatinate in the Upper Bavarian Forest Nature Park , one kilometer east of the state road 2398 from Neunburg vorm Wald to Bodenwöhr at the foot of the Hummelberg (492 m).

history

In the area between ore houses , wind maize, Buch, Pingarten and Taxöldern , iron ore was mined in the Middle Ages. Around 1140, burgrave Otto I von Riedenburg founded a house of the Babones in Walderbach, one of the Mother of God and St. Augustinian canons consecrated to Nicholas as a house monastery and family burial place. The monastery was first mentioned in 1143 when it was converted into a Cistercian monastery and thus occupied by the Waldsassen monastery . In 1249, Buch belonged to the Walderbach Monastery , as evidenced by a letter of consensus from Pope Innocent IV. The letter confirmed rights and possessions in “Buch, Berg, Warmisdorf, Hovin (Höfen) and Alberinruth ”. In 1363 the Murach judge Ruger Warperger sold his village "zu Pueche" (book) to the Reichenbach monastery . In 1693 ore mining began in Buch.

Ore mining

In the area between Erzhäuser , Windmais, Buch, Pingarten and Taxöldern , iron ore was mined in the Middle Ages . In 1685, Johann Schreyer received the mining rights in Buch to mine iron ore. The iron ore-bearing layer was 0.5 meters to about 3 meters thick. The Bucher system was about 1.7 kilometers long. The manhole can still be seen half a kilometer south of Buch. The tunnels reached a depth of up to 60 meters. The iron ore from Buch was brought to the iron and steel works in Bodenwöhr by horse and cart for further processing. Around 1800 about ten people were working in the mining industry, around five decades later there were 50 miners. The ore mining ended in 1882 because the blast furnace operation in Bodenwöhr was stopped. New drilling in 1938 at Windmais and at the Pechmühle did not bring any success.

Church history

The church visit protocol from the years 1582/83 lists Buch among other places under the Penting parish.

Winter linden tree near book

The linden tree at the chapel dedicated to St. Mary Queen near Buch was planted around 1827. The tree reaches a height of almost 30 meters, the trunk circumference is around seven meters. In 1994 the Erzhäuser Fruit and Horticultural Association celebrated its 40th anniversary. For this reason, another linden tree was planted at the chapel.

Chapel of the Holy Mary Queen

In 1840 Nikolaus Ziegler from Buch built a chapel on the right-hand side on the road from Buch to Windmais. In 2005 the Kapellenbauverein Buch e. V. The chapel was subsequently torn down. A new building was built on the other side of the linden tree. The ridge cross could be used again. The Eichinger family donated a statue of Mary. As the patron saint of miners, there is a figure of Saint Barbara in the chapel, also a figure of Saint George. In 2006, Cathedral Chapter Peter Hubbauer and Pastor Richard Salzl consecrated the chapel in honor of St. Mary Queen. A part of the wall of the old chapel is still on the trunk of the linden tree.

Tax district

At the beginning of the 19th century, Blechhammer, Buch, Windmais and Erzhäuser belonged to the Buch tax district. The Kingdom of Bavaria was divided into 15 districts in 1808. These districts were named after rivers based on the French model ( Naabkreis , Regenkreis , Unterdonaukreis , etc.). The districts were divided into district courts. The district court district Neunburg vorm Wald had 55 tax districts, including Buch with 6 properties. Erzhäuser, Windmais and Blechhammer belonged to the Buch tax district.

Community membership

The district courts should in turn be divided into individual municipality areas. In 1820/21 the community of Windmais was established with 20 families. This included Buch with 6 families and Pechmühle with one family. In 1830 the municipality of Windmais was dissolved and attached to the municipality of Erzhäuser. On May 1, 1978, the municipality of Erzhäuser with Buch and parts of the area of the dissolved municipality of Altenschwand was incorporated into Bodenwöhr.
