Buchschachen is a place with 596 inhabitants and a cadastral municipality of Markt Allhau in Burgenland . Buchschachen is a cluster village northwest of Oberwart . Buchschachen was an independent municipality until it was merged with Markt Allhau on January 1st, 1971.

history

In the year 1263 in the north of Allhau bei der Lafnitz a then uninhabited piece of forest (Hungarian: "saw", German "Schachen") was loaned by King Bela IV to one of the Köveshutis already known from Allhau for military service. It was the place of a small lordship, which in 1574 became part of the Schlaining lordship . Old buildings with three and four-sided courtyards with courtyards and plaster decorations have been preserved. As mentioned in the relevant document, this property extends from the Lafnitz to the Stögersbach. In the late 13th century a castle was built, the remains of which can still be seen in the forest northeast of Buchschachen. In 1532 the "Puechschachen" is mentioned in the Schlaininger Urbar. In the period from 1570 to 1610, the Buchschachner probably joined the Reformation under Balthasar and Franz II Batthyány . The place grew gradually; In 1744 there were already 93 farmers and three Söllner counted, in 1750 the local gypsy colony was founded. Around 1822 the community built the first school instead of a farmhouse, which was rebuilt, enlarged and a tower was added in 1860. In 1945 Buchschachen was also a combat zone for three weeks. With the war memorial set up in the public square, the community honors its fellow citizens who died in the two world wars.

Culture and sights

  • Hausberg: Remains of a Hausberganlage in a ravine east of the village, called Schlosshügel, probably go back to a castle, which was destroyed in the Peace of Hainburg in 1291 .
  • Evangelical school and prayer house: was built in 1821, rebuilt from 1868 to 1869 and provided with a bell tower. The single-storey house with simple plaster decor shows a three-story tower with a pointed helmet in the middle.
