Buckeye Township is located northwest of Illinois, about 3 miles south of the Wisconsin border . The Mississippi , which forms the border with Iowa , is about 80 km to the west.

Buckeye Township is located in the northern center of Stephenson County and is bordered to the north by Oneco Township , to the northeast by Rock Grove Township , to the east by Dakota Township , to the southeast by Lancaster Township , to the southwest by Harlem Township and to the west to the Waddams Township .

Illinois State Route 26 runs through the entire township in a north-south direction and crosses County Highway 19 in the center . County Highway 5 forms the southern border of the township . The County Highway 7 passes through the township in the extreme northwest corner. All other roads are subordinate and partly unpaved roads.
The nearest airport is 20 km south to Albertus Airport in Freeport , the center of the region.
