The Harlem Township is one of 18 townships in Stephenson County in the northwest of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois .

The Harlem Township is located northwest of Illinois, about 20 km south of the border with Wisconsin . The Mississippi , which forms the border with Iowa , is about 70 km to the west.
The Harlem Township is located at 42 ° 20'15 "north latitude and 89 ° 41'48" west longitude and extends over 81.58 km², which is spread over 81.32 km² of land and 0.26 km² of water. It is traversed by the Pecatonica River coming from Wisconsin , a tributary of the Rock River .
The Harlem Township is located in the northwestern suburb of Freeport , the center of the region. It borders within Stephenson County in the northwest on the Waddams Township , in the northeast on the Buckeye Township , in the east on the Lancaster Township , in the southeast on the city of Freeport , in the south on the Florence Township , in the southwest on the Loran Township and in the west to the Erin Township .

US Highway 20 , which is the shortest route from Dubuque , Iowa to Rockford , Illinois, runs through the township in a west-east direction . Since Highway 20 is also Freeport's northern bypass, the city's west-north-western access road branches off in the center of Harlem Township. The western boundary of the township is formed by Illinois State Route 26 , the northern arterial road from Freeport. All other roads are county roads and further subordinate and partly unpaved roads.
A Canadian National Railway runs parallel to US Highway 20 and runs west from Chicago .
The nearest airport is Albertus Airport near Freeport, around 15 km southeast of the township .

At the 2010 census , the township had 2,275 inhabitants. The population lives next to scattered settlement mostly in the suburbs of the city of Freeport, without legally belonging to the city.
