Bundang-gu (colloquially often Bundang ) is the most populous and largest district of Seongnam in the province of Gyeonggi-do . Bundang was developed in the 1990s as the first extensive planned city in South Korea at the same time as Ilsan New Town . Bundang was established to relieve the capital Seoul , especially the Gangnam district , of the excessive population, and to stabilize the chronically overpriced housing prices. But contrary to what was planned, Bundang took over the affluent class of residents and developed into the "second Gangnam". In the initial phase, the city was often referred to as Bundang-Shindoshi (분당 신도시, planned city Bundang).

Due to the rapid availability of Gangnam Bundangs from the Seoul Metro ( Bundang- and Shinbundang-Line ) or by car via the highway ( Expressway 1 , 171 , Expressway Bundang Naegok and Expressway Bundang Suseo ) Bundang is a popular place for commuters with a job in Seoul. Because of the favorable location, the pleasant surroundings and the developed infrastructure, Bundang is currently a very wealthy and sought-after place with high apartment prices. The city district also serves as a model and benchmark for many subsequent planned city projects in Sudogwon and across the country.

While the first goal of Bundang's development was to build housing, Bundang has now also become a location for leading IT companies in South Korea such as B. Naver and KT . The Technovalley in the Pangyo district in particular is home to various software companies, such as B. KakaoTalk , Samsung Techwin , AhnLab , Nexon , NCsoft and Hancom .

Bundang borders the neighboring cities of Yongin , Gwangju and Uiwang . Because of its location in the middle of the main traffic axis between Seoul and the southern Sudogwon region, Bundang's economic function is constantly increasing. In addition, districts of other cities adjacent to Bundang are being expanded into similar planned cities. The Suji-gu District of Yongin, the planned town of Gwanggyo between Yongin and Suwon are such an example.

482,688 inhabitants live in an area of 69.36 km² (status: 2011 census).
