The Swiss federal law on metrology contains provisions in the field of metrology on the units of measurement that are binding in Switzerland and the obligation to indicate quantities and prices in trade and traffic.

An essential provision concerns the obligation to indicate physical quantities in legal units in trade and traffic. The legal units of measurement are the base units of the international system of units (SI) listed in Article 3 , the derived SI units in accordance with Article 4, the units outside the SI in accordance with Article 5, and the decimal multiples and parts of the SI units in accordance with Article 6 The Units Ordinance of November 23, 1994 lists these units individually.

List of legal entities in Switzerland with special names

SI units are highlighted in green; Units approved by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BPIM) for use with the SI are yellow.
