The Lingen Bundestag constituency was a constituency for the elections to the German Bundestag in Lower Saxony . It last comprised the area of the district of Lingen and the former district of Bersenbrück , which became part of the district of Osnabrück in 1972 .

history

The constituency was number 5 in the Lower Saxony constituencies in the 1949 federal election. For the Bundestag elections from 1953 to 1961 it had the number 27 and finally from the Bundestag election in 1965 the constituency number 32. In the Bundestag elections from 1949 up to and including 1961 the constituency was called Bersenbrück - Lingen , then Bersenbrück and finally Lingen in the 1976 Bundestag election . The constituency was considered a stronghold of the CDU. The direct mandate has been won by the CDU candidates since 1953 with over 60.0% of the first votes cast.

The constituency area has hardly changed in the years of its existence. It consisted of the entire district of Lingen and Bersenbrück. In addition, there was the area of the municipalities of Geeste , Haselünne and Meppen , which belong to the district of Meppen . Slight changes of area occurred due to the incorporation over the years. For the 1969 federal election, the area of the former municipality of Bakerde, which had already been incorporated into the new municipality of Herzlake in 1964 , went to the constituency of Emsland . Before the federal election in 1976, the constituency of Lingen also lost the municipalities of Bookhof, Felsen and Neuenlande, which were incorporated into the municipality of Herzlake, and the municipality of Dohren, which was part of the Herzlake municipality, to the constituency of Emsland. In return, the constituency won the territory of the former municipality of Dalum, which now belonged to the municipality of Geeste, before the 1976 general election.

In the course of the reorganization of the constituencies before the federal election in 1980, the constituency was dissolved and the constituency area was divided between the newly created constituencies Mittelems and Osnabrück-Land .
