Burchard Giesewell
Burchard Giesewell (also: Burkhard David Friedrich Giesewell ; * July 2, 1785 in Hanover ; † April 11, 1856 there ) was a German painter , portrait painter , graphic artist and drawing teacher .
Life
Burchard Giesewell was a student of Johann Heinrich Ramberg . From 1819 to 1853 he taught himself as a drawing teacher; at the Royal Court School in Hanover and the Neustädter Boys' School in the Calenberger Neustadt .

Works
- 1827: The Mühlenplatz in front of the Schlossbrücke and the Leineschloss ; the oil painting shows a parade of guard grenadiers with bearskin hats . You can see the click mill with the Bornkunst water tower , the mighty granary built in 1798 , the elongated house of the former royal laundry , the Vauxhall amusement bar and the Lyceum , the Hanover Latin school.

- around 1835: The oil painting from the Kingdom of Heaven (today: Friederikenbrücke ) shows the click mill with the water tower from a different point of view, but also the old opera house attached to the Leineschloss in 1689 (demolished in 1854 in favor of the opera house in Hanover elsewhere). You can also see the location of the former house of the fathers and the Wangenheimpalais , which at the time still managed without the extension of the winter garden by Laves .
- around 1840: The oil painting from Georgsplatz (extension of Georgstrasse ) shows an almost rural idyll with the palace of the imperial count and hereditary postmaster of Platen-Hallermund in the center. Next to it, in the later Potthofgasse , a slightly smaller villa of the von Kielmannsegge family . On a tower of the former city fortifications of Hanover is Stadthof to see in the time of the abbot of the monastery Loccum lived. The picture is owned by the Historisches Museum Hannover .
- Around 1840: Artilleriestraße was a bypass road around the city, initially built on one side with a few spacious garden houses, from the Steintor eastwards towards Aegidientor . Between the old Posthof (formerly on today's Celler Strasse ) and Artilleriestrasse there is only an undeveloped meadow. Oil painting
- around 1840: The scene in oil labeled Graft shows a group of citizens with a boat ferry crossing from the south-eastern corner of the border ditch around the Great Garden . Only on the horizon does the silhouette of the city emerge behind the Steintormasch ; the chimney of the Imperial Continental Gas Association , the first to be seen in the distance, marks the beginning of the industrial age .
