The castle Ostrzeszów is a Outbound hilltop castle in Seesen in the district of Goslar in Lower Saxony .

history

The castle was on the road from Seesen to Lautenthal . From the 413 m high Hausschildberg there , one could dominate the path through the valley of the Innerste . At the end of the first millennium, the forest area was part of the Seesen royal estate.

The first documented owner in the High Middle Ages was Gandersheim Monastery . In 1148 the monastery exchanged the site for 14 Hufen Land, including Brunsen , Holtershausen and Ildehausen , with Count Hermann II of Winzenburg , who already owned Asselburg , Derneburg and Nienover . The count wanted to expand it into the new family castle because his Winzenburg castle was initially revoked until he got it back in 1150 in exchange for the Homburg .

Then it came into the possession of Henry the Lion . 1202/1203 it was his son Otto IV (HRR). Assigned at the same time the following castles: Staufenburg , Osterode , Herzberg Castle , Scharzfels Castle , Castle Lutterberg and Hohnstein Castle and the area west of Osterwieck -Rimbeck while his brother William of Lüneburg the Area to the east of it with the castles Blankenburg , Regenstein and Heimburg occupied by feudal people .

Schildberg Castle was probably destroyed in the Thirty Years War .
