The Buttermoor / Butterbargsmoor nature reserve is located in the communities of Holm and Wedel in the Pinneberg district (Schleswig-Holstein). This nature reserve is around 105 hectares in size and has been under nature protection since 1992, as it is a remnant of the moor and heathland landscape between the three municipalities and Hamburg-Sülldorf , which was still extensively connected about 100 years ago . The moor area was created after the Ice Age in a drainless depression made of boulder clay. Silting processes then led to the formation of bog. On the other hand, drifting sands were deposited on the southwestern edge and led to the formation of inland dunes . It is one of the nutrient-poor heather moors with the typical flora and provides habitat for numerous highly specialized and endangered species of flora and fauna. So one finds a large area growing leaved heath , purple moor grass and the dunes foothills heather . The moorland is of great importance for breeding and resting birds. To live snipe , plovers , teals and water rails in the area. In addition to amphibians, various reptile species have their habitat here. The many insect species offer the bat species living in the nature reserve a rich food supply.
