The Haseldorfer Inner Elbe nature reserve with Elbe foreland lies in the Wedel- Haseldorfer Marsch . It extends about 15 kilometers along the Elbe from Wedel to the mouth of the Pinnau . This area was placed under nature protection in 1984 and has a size of approx. 2160 hectares and is therefore one of the largest nature reserves in Schleswig-Holstein. In § 3 of the Nature Conservation Ordinance it says: “The nature reserve consists of the near-natural river bank landscape of the Elbe, which was partially changed by the dike. It is a wetland of national representative and international importance. "
As a result of the flood protection measures carried out from 1975 and the construction of protective dikes, the water conditions and the natural habitats in this area changed. Large parts of the former river landscape were no longer subject to the tide . The nature reserve is a large ornithological resting and breeding area in the Lower Elbe area . Maintenance and development work has been carried out for several years on the basis of expert reports.
Julssand pastures
The areas of the nature reserve are largely in the FFH area DE-2323-392 Schleswig-Holstein Elbe estuary and adjacent areas and in the EU bird reserve DE-2323-401 Lower Elbe to Wedel . These two areas are significantly larger and belong to the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas .
