Butyl (specifically, n -Butylglycidylether) is a chemical compound from the group of epoxies and ether .

Extraction and presentation

Butyl glycidyl ether can be obtained by condensing 1-butanol with epichlorohydrin and subsequent dehydrochlorination with alkali to form the epoxy ring.

properties

Butyl glycidyl ether is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor that is sparingly soluble in water.

use

Butyl glycidyl ether is used as a casting material, adhesive and as an epoxy thinner.

safety instructions

The vapors of butyl glycidyl ether can form an explosive mixture with air ( flash point approx. 40–61 ° C, ignition temperature 215 ° C). In humans, butyl glycidyl ether after acute inhalation causes irritation of the mucous membranes, primarily nausea with vomiting, severe headache, ataxia and anorexia. Butyl glycidyl ether is very lipophilic and is very well absorbed through the skin. Considerable sensitization has been observed in humans.
