The Buzau ( ; German also Buzau) is a 325 km long right tributary of the Sereth in the southeast of Romania . It has a catchment area of 5505 km². In Buzău County it is the main river with its largest tributaries Pănătău , Slănic and Câlnău .
In the valley of the river are the places Întorsura Buzăului , Nehoiu , Pătârlagele and Buzău .
The ancient name of the river Buzău is Musaeus .
The Christian martyr Sabas the Goth was ( according to legend ) drowned in this river on April 12, 372 because of his belief.
