Cándido Bareiro
Cándido Pastor Bareiro Caballero (born October 27, 1833 in Luque , Departamento Central , Paraguay , † September 4, 1880 in Asunción ) was a Paraguayan politician who was President of Paraguay between 1878 and 1880 .
Life
Bareiro was in 1864 by President Francisco Solano López for business support in the UK and France appointed in 1867 from this post during the Triple Alliance War recalled, a battle of Paraguay against the allied states Argentina , Brazil and Uruguay . During the presidency of Salvador Jovellanos he served briefly in 1874 as Foreign Secretary and later during the presidency of Juan Bautista Gill between 1875 and 1876 as envoy to the United Kingdom.
On November 25, 1878, after the resignation of Higinio Uriarte as his successor , Bareiro finally became the eighth President of Paraguay . He guaranteed the return of the former President Cirilo Antonio Rivarola , who had carried out a failed coup against President Uriarte in October 1877, who was then stabbed to death by unknown masked men on the instructions of War Minister Bernardino Caballero . He held the office of President until his death as a result of a stroke on September 4, 1880, whereupon Bernardino Caballero succeeded him.
