César Antonio Mosquera Corral

César Antonio Mosquera Corral (born April 22, 1896 in Riobamba , Ecuador ; † April 26, 1971 in Cuenca ) was first bishop , later first archbishop of Guayaquil .

Life

Mosquera Corral received the sacrament of ordination on January 1, 1921 . He was then parish priest and chaplain in Guaranda and San Luis. In 1933 he became Vicar General of the Diocese of Bolívar .

Pope Pius XI appointed him on September 18, 1936 Bishop of Ibarra . Carlos María de la Torre , Archbishop of Quito , gave him episcopal ordination on January 24, 1937 . Co- consecrators were Alberto Maria Ordóñez Crespo , Bishop of Bolívar, and Daniel Hermida Ortega , Bishop of Cuenca . Pope Pius XII appointed him on October 11, 1954 Bishop of Guayaquil. When he raised the diocese of Guayaquil to an archbishopric on January 22, 1956, Mosquera became its first archbishop. In 1962 he founded the Universidad Católica Santiago de Guayaquil . From 1962 to 1965 he took part in the Second Vatican Council . Pope Paul VI accepted on March 11, 1969 his resignation submitted for health reasons and appointed him titular archbishop of Forum Novum . Mosquera Corral resigned this title on December 27, 1970 and died four months later, a few days after his 75th birthday.
