CEISAL
CEISAL stands for Consejo Europeo de Investigaciones Sociales de América Latina (German European Council for Social Science Research in Latin America ). The non-profit and non-profit association consists of (as of 2008) 51 research institutions and research associations from 19 European countries ( Belgium , Germany , Finland , France , Great Britain , Italy , Netherlands , Austria , Poland , Portugal , Russia , Sweden , Switzerland , Serbia and Montenegro , Slovakia , Slovenia , Spain , the Czech Republic and Hungary ). The goals of CEISAL are closer cooperation between the European research institutions and associations on Latin America and with the corresponding research institutions in Latin America, the support and implementation of research work and the highlighting of the contribution of the social sciences to a better knowledge of today's Latin America.
The association was founded in Westphalia in 1971 by 24 institutions from ten European countries (eight from Western and two from Eastern Europe). The participation of Poland and Hungary (as well as Czechoslovakia as passive guests) was a conscious inclusion of states beyond the Iron Curtain in times of the Cold War . The legal seat of CEISAL is the Austrian Latin America Institute in Vienna .
