Club Social y Deportivo Macará is an Ecuadorian sports club from Ambato , Tungurahua Province, founded in 1939 . The professional football department currently plays in Serie A .
history
The Macará association was founded in 1939 by students in Ambato. Initially, the focus was on the sports of basketball , swimming and table tennis . The traditional rival is the Club Técnico Universitario , which is also based in Ambato. The local derby is known as Clásico Ambateño .
Macará was able to win Serie B four times . Macará first played in the first division in 1960 . The best result achieved was a third place in 1988.
After the last relegation from the first division, Macará played in the second division from 2014. In the 2016 season, the club rose again to Serie A.
As a climber, Macará reached fourth place in the overall table in 2017 and qualified for the Copa Libertadores for the first time .

Macará plays its home games at the Estadio Bellavista . The stadium was inaugurated in 1945 and has a capacity of 16,467 seats.
