Call of Duty: WWII (Abbreviation for: World War 2 , German translation: Second World War ) is a first-person shooter developed by Sledgehammer Games that was released worldwide by Activision for Windows , PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 3, 2017 . The game thus represents the fourteenth part of the Call of Duty series.

action

Call of Duty: WWII tells the fictional story of the American soldier Red Daniels during World War II on the Western Front , who lands in Normandy on D-Day in 1944 . With his squad from the 1st Infantry Division he fights his way to Germany. The scenes are set at Omaha Beach , Saint Lô , Argentan , Paris , Aachen , the Huertgen Forest , the Remagen Bridge and the Berga subcamp .

Gameplay

In addition to a single player campaign, the game also includes a multiplayer and co-op mode as well as the zombie mode known from its predecessors . An essential core element of the first person shooter is the squad system, so the player in the campaign is dependent on his fellow campaigners, who provide him with ammunition and medicine in the fight. In contrast to the previous series offshoots, Call of Duty: WWII does without the automatic regeneration of the player's life energy. In addition to Red Daniels, you also temporarily play the role of a French resistance fighter of the Resistance .

reception

Call of Duty: WWII received fair to good ratings from the trade press. The website Metacritic , which collects and evaluates test reports from relevant media, determined a Metascore between 73 and 80 out of 100 possible points, depending on the version at hand. Matti Sandqvist from PC Games was initially skeptical because of the repeated use of the Second World War as a setting, but was then enthusiastic about the implementation. In addition to the successful campaign, which is a bit too short, it is above all the new game mode "War" that leaves a positive impression.
