The Marien's bellflower ( Campanula medium ) is a species of bellflower ( Campanula ) within the bellflower family (Campanulaceae).
description
Vegetative characteristics
It is a biennial herbaceous plant that forms leaf rosettes in the first year and then stems and flowers in the second . It reaches stature heights of about 60 to 80 centimeters. With a length of 12 to 15 centimeters, the basal leaves are lanceolate to elliptical with a serrated leaf margin.
Generative characteristics
The flowering period extends from May to July. The flowers are arranged in a loose, racemose inflorescence . The short-stalked, large, hermaphrodite flower is 2.5 to 4 inches tall and five-fold. The five sepals are only fused at their base. The five petals are fused bell-shaped; Their colors are different shades of blue, less often white or pink, depending on the variety. The corolla lobes are bent. There is only one circle with five fertile stamens. There are five styluses.
A capsule fruit is formed.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 34.
Occurrence
The Marien's bellflower comes from southeastern France and northern and central Italy (in the regions of Piedmont , Lombardy , Liguria , Emilia-Romagna , Tuscany , Marche , Campania ).
The Marien's bellflower thrives best on fresh, loose, nutrient-rich soils without waterlogging.
