Can Alexander Öncü (born July 26, 2003 in Alanya ) is a Turkish motorcycle racer .

Career

Early years

Öncü competed in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in 2017 and 2018 and was the first to finish the 2018 season ahead of his twin brother Deniz.

Moto3 class

On November 18, 2018, Öncü made his debut in the Moto3 class of the Motorcycle World Championship at the Valencia Grand Prix . He competed as a wildcard rider in the Red Bull KTM Ajo team and won the race confidently from Jorge Martín ( Honda ) and John McPhee ( KTM ). With this victory, Öncü became the youngest Grand Prix winner in the history of the motorcycle world championship at the age of 15 and 115 days and beat Scott Redding's record . Öncü was also the first rider to win on his Grand Prix debut since Noboru Ueda won the 125cc Japanese Grand Prix in 1991 . He was ranked 24th in the World Cup.

In 2019 , Öncü drove his first full season with the same team. With only eight points and a 31st place in the World Championship, however, he was unable to meet expectations this season.

Supersport World Cup

In 2020 Öncü will compete in the Supersport World Championship on a Kawasaki . In the first race of the season on Phillip Island , he scored points straight away in eleventh place.
