action

In the year 4084 almost all planets of man were destroyed, only Zion remained. They also live in colonies near Zion. But even the last planet is repeatedly attacked by so-called victims who appear from space. The people are protected by the five goddesses , also called Ingrids . These mechas are controlled by young pilots and fight against the victims. The basis of the goddesses is GOA, the Goddess Operator Academy. New pilots are also trained on this spaceship.

One of these contenders is 15-year-old Zero Enna ( 苑 名 零 ), who was once saved by the White Goddess in his childhood and now wants to become her pilot. Besides him, other pilots also want to become pilots, such as the cool Hiead Gner ( ヒ イ ー ド ・ グ ナ ー , Hiīdo Gunā ) and the intelligent but clumsy Clay Cliff Fortan ( ク レ イ ・ ク リ フ ・ フ ォ ー ト ラ ン , Kurei Kurifu Fōtoran ). Other contenders include the shy Roose Sawamura ( ル ズ ・ サ ワ ム ラ , Ruzu Sawamura ) and the stubborn Yamagi Kushida ( ヤ マ ギ ・ ク gehören ). Each candidate is assigned a female navigator who is also in training. Zero receives the strong-willed and quick-tempered Kizna Towryk ( キ ズ ナ ・ ト ゥ リ ー ク , Kizuna Turīku ). Zero also has the ability of psychic perception, called EX.

While the training begins for the candidates, conflicts break out among the Ingrid pilots. The enemy becomes stronger and the first serious injuries occur. After a dispute between Zero and Hiead, his EX gets out of control and he endangers Kizna. Hiead almost kills his partner while training. His pilot desperate and because of the constant conflicts between him and Zero, both are locked in the EX neutralization room.

When an unusually high number of Victims attack GOA one night, not only the Ingrids but also all the contenders are sent into battle. Only Clay remains behind because of his bad hit rate. Soon after, Clay wants to give up, but when a Victim attacks GOA from within, he is the first to recognize it thanks to his EX and uses his skills on the computer to take action against it.

style

The drawings in the manga are detailed; some super-deformed drawings are used. The characters' gestures and facial expressions are strongly worked out. Towards the end of the story there are more and more dream scenes.

reception

According to Splashcomics, the characters are detailed, realistic and personable, the main focus is more on the character development than on the fights. Newly introduced figures would also fit in well. However, the plot is quite complicated at the beginning, and the end of the plot is difficult to understand, the reader is given little information. So the story ends very abruptly and complex.
