From 1994 he played for Benfica Lisbon for a year and then went back to Argentina to the Boca Juniors . In 1997 he was embroiled in a cocaine scandal that resulted in a two-year ban.
In 1999 he tried a comeback at Atalanta Bergamo. From 2003 to February 2005 he let his career end in Qatar . On February 20, 2005, he finished his professional career, but in December of the same year he signed a contract until June 2006 with his new and old employer, Qatar SC.

He was in the Argentine squad for the 1994 World Cup in the USA and took part in the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan , but was not used in any game. However, he received on June 12, 2002 in the game against Sweden - sitting on the bench - because of insulting the referee the red card.
