history

Time as Valencia FC

Carabobo FC was founded on July 24th 1964 under the name Valencia FC in Valencia, the third largest city in Venezuela . Just one year after the club was founded, Valencia FC won their first title, the Copa Venezuela the final against Lara FC, the predecessor of today's CD Lara . Valencia FC was able to make the national cup competition of Venezuela victorious a second time when Universidad de Los Andes FC were relegated to second place thirteen years after their first triumph in 1978 . Between the two cup successes, Valencia FC was able to win the Venezuelan football championship once, in the 1971 season they took first place in the Primera División with four points ahead of Deportivo Italia, today's Deportivo Petare . To date, winning the title in 1971 is the only championship of Valencia FC, even after the re-establishment in 1997 it has not been possible to become champions.

Due to the successes in league and cup, Valencia FC was also able to take part in the Copa Libertadores several times . When they first participated in 1970 , the club finished third in the group stage behind the two top Uruguayan clubs Nacional Montevideo and CA Peñarol and ahead of league rivals Deportivo Galicia . Both duels were won against Deportivo Galicia, and they surprisingly got a point in the 0-0 draw against Peñarol. However, the second leg in Montevideo was lost to Uruguay's series champions 2:11. In 1971 Valencia FC took part in the Copa Libertadores for the second time and failed again in the preliminary round. The club finished last in a group with CA Peñarol and Deportivo Italia, the only point win could be achieved in a 1-1 draw with Deportivo Italia. The third and to date last participation in the Libertadores Cup took place another two years later, in 1974 . Valencia FC could not record a victory at this tournament either, only Portuguesa FC and CD Los Millonarios from Colombia each managed a draw. They were finally eliminated as bottom of the table.

Under the new name

In 1997 the club was re-established under the new name Carabobo FC . In addition to the name, which was chosen based on that of the most populous state in Venezuela, which has Valencia as its capital, the club's colors, which previously included green and white and have now been swapped for red and white, also changed with the new founding. Soon after the re-establishment, the club managed to return to the Primera División, from which they had already left in the 1980s and only briefly rose again. In 2004, Carabobo FC managed to qualify for a continental competition for the first time in thirty years, even if it was only the Copa Sudamericana and not the Copa Libertadores, in which the best teams in South America and the continental crown in club football play. In total, Carabobo FC took part in the Copa Sudamericana three times, each time the tournament ended in the qualifying round. In 2004 they were eliminated against Cienciano del Cuzco from Peru , in 2006 against AC Mineros de Guayana and in 2007 against CD El Nacional from Ecuador .
