Carbodihydrazide [CO (NHNH 2 ) 2 ] is a chemical compound from the group of hydrazides . The compound is a flammable, water-soluble solid. When heated, carbodihydrazide becomes explosive.
history
Although August Wilhelm von Hofmann already synthesized sym- diphenylhydrazine in 1863 and Emil Fischer began his work on phenylhydrazines in 1875 , the parent compound hydrazine was not known until 1887 through Theodor Curtius . T. Curtius described in 1894 and - in more detail - in 1895, carbodihydrazide, which he had obtained by hydrazinolysis of diethyl carbonate and characterized by conversion into suitable derivatives.
Extraction and presentation
Carbodihydrazide can by
- Hydrazinolysis of phosgene :
- Hydrazinolysis of Carbasic Acid :
be won.
use
Carbodihydrazide is used as an oxygen scavenger in boiler water. Like hydrazine , carbodihydrazide protects and passivates metal surfaces.
