Carl-Ernst Büchting (born September 6, 1915 in Klein Wanzleben ; † May 1, 2010 in Einbeck ) was a German agricultural scientist and CEO of KWS Saat .

Life

Carl-Ernst Büchting was the son of Karl and Annemarie Büchting and the grandson of the Ökonomierat Ernst Giesecke (1859-1930) and great-grandson of Julius Giesecke . He was married to Johanne M. Rabbethge , the great-granddaughter of the company founder Matthias Christian Rabbethge . The couple have two daughters and one son together. The son is Andreas Büchting , who today heads the supervisory board of KWS Saat SE.

In 1934 he passed his Abitur at the Arndt-Gymnasium in Berlin-Dahlem and then completed a commercial traineeship in Copenhagen . This was followed by internships in the Salzwedel and Klein Wanzleben sugar factories . In 1937 he began studying sugar technology at the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Berlin , which he completed with the state examination as a graduate sugar factory engineer. In 1942 he received his doctorate. agr.

During the Second World War he took part as a staff officer with the rank of lieutenant in the reconnaissance department of the 22nd Infantry Division . He fell into American captivity , from which he returned on June 18, 1945. He helped father and father-in-law transfer the KWS Saat company to Einbeck. In 1951 he became a board member and was a member of the board of directors and supervisory board until 1993 as chairman.

Carl-Ernst Büchting had been a sponsoring member of the Max Planck Society since 1949 and was also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Max Planck Institute for Breeding Research in Cologne for many years .

Around 1951 he acquired the former war fishing cutter Helgoland .
