Carl Eduard Adolph Gerstäcker

Carl Eduard Adolph Gerstäcker (born August 30, 1828 in Berlin , † June 20, 1895 in Greifswald ) was a German zoologist .

Life

After studying medicine and natural sciences in Berlin, he was curator at the Zoological Museum of the University of Berlin from 1857 to 1876 . In 1865 he became a lecturer at the Agricultural Training Institute in Berlin . On April 10, 1874, Gerstäcker and his colleague Eduard von Martens were appointed " extraordinary professors at the University of Berlin " by the German Emperor and King of Prussia .

In 1876 he moved to the University of Greifswald as a full professor of zoology . Here he tried to get better buildings for the institute. His commitment earned him a reprimand for non-compliance with official channels in 1881 and a ministerial objection to his choice of words in 1891, but on the other hand he was awarded the Red Eagle Order IV class in 1890 .

In the zoological system, he founded the taxon Diplostraca GERSTÄCKER in 1866 in the Arthropoda VON SIEBOLD tribe in 1848.
